Specifications of Nickel-Aluminum Thermocouple

1. Temperature Range: −200°C to +1350°C

Recommended Range for Continuous Use: 0°C to 1100°C

Short-Term Use: Up to 1350°C (2462°F)

2.Composition

Positive Leg (Chromel): 90% Nickel, 10% Chromium

Negative Leg (Alumel): 95% Nickel, 2% Aluminium, 2% Manganese, 1% Silicon

3.Accuracy (Tolerance)

Standard Tolerance: ±1.5°C or ±0.4% of the measured temperature

Special Tolerance: ±1.1°C or ±0.4% of the measured temperature

4. Seebeck coefficient

41 µV/°C at 20°C. This shows the voltage generated per degree Celsius difference between the junctions.

5. Response time

Depends on the protective sheath, junction type and environment.

Response times range from a few milliseconds to several seconds.

Ungrounded junctions respond more slowly but are less affected by noise. Grounded junctions respond more quickly but are more affected by noise.

6. Maximum Voltage Output

The voltage output range is -6.458 mV to 54.886 mV for temperatures between -200°C and +1350°C.

7. Insulation Resistance

Type K thermocouples usually have high insulation resistance, but it can degrade at high temperatures or in corrosive environments.

8. Environmental Resistance

Oxidation Resistance It resists oxidation at high temperatures, so it can be used in air or oxidising environments.

Corrosion resistance: Not suitable for use in reducing, vacuum or sulfur-containing environments unless protected.

Vibration resistance: Type K thermocouples can withstand mechanical stress and vibrations.

9. Junction types

Grounded: Fast response time, good for conductive media.

Ungrounded. Slower response time, but provides electrical isolation.

Exposed: Fastest response time, but more vulnerable to damage.

10. Sheath Materials

Type K thermocouples are often used with stainless steel, Inconel, or ceramic sheaths. The choice depends on the conditions and temperature range.
