The KST-401 thermostat maintains precise temperature control using its bimetallic strip design, a key feature that ensures reliability and accuracy in various heating applications. Here's how it works:
The bimetallic strip is composed of two layers of metals with different coefficients of thermal expansion. When exposed to heat, the metals expand at different rates, causing the strip to bend. This bending action is the core mechanism that responds to temperature changes.
In the Normally Closed (NC) configuration, the bimetallic strip keeps the circuit closed under normal conditions, allowing current to flow and heat to generate. As the temperature rises to the preset threshold, the strip bends and opens the circuit, cutting off the power supply to stop further heating.
In the Normally Open (NO) configuration, the circuit remains open until the strip reaches the set temperature, where it bends to close the circuit, allowing current to flow.
This on-off mechanism ensures that the device operates within a precise temperature range, maintaining consistent performance.
The thermostat is calibrated to specific temperature thresholds, such as the T90 (90°C) rating, allowing it to regulate the temperature accurately. Once the temperature drops below the threshold, the strip reverts to its original position, reactivating the circuit and restarting the heating cycle.
