How to check flanged heating element in water tank?

Jun 09, 2023

To check a flanged heating element in a water tank, follow these steps:

1-Turn off the power to the water tank.

2-Drain the tank completely using the drain valve.

3-Remove the access covers on the side of the tank that provide access to the heating elements.

4-Inspect the flanged heating element for any visible signs of damage, such as corrosion or cracks.

5-Use a multimeter set to the continuity or resistance (ohms) setting.

6-Touch the multimeter probes to the terminals on the flanged heating element.

7-Check the multimeter reading. A functioning flanged heating element should show continuity or a low resistance reading.

8-If there is no continuity or the resistance reading is significantly higher, it suggests a faulty flanged heating element that may need replacement.

9-Repeat the process for other flanged heating elements, if applicable.

Remember to turn off the power and drain the tank before checking the flanged heating element. If you're unsure or uncomfortable with the process, consult the water tank's manual or consider seeking professional assistance from a plumber.
