Elements of a PTC Air Heater

Every PTC air heater contains a PTC ceramic element. This element consists of barium titanate or other form of ceramic that has the PTC property, meaning that as the temperature goes up so do the electrical resistances.

 

A manufactured PTC air heater usually consists of the following components:

  • PTC Ceramic Element: The heating core that self-regulates temperature.
  • Conductive Electrodes: Metal plates or wires that are attached to the ceramic to provide pathway for electrical current to flow.
  • Insulating Layer: Provides protection to surrounding components and provides safe operational use.
  • Enclosure or Case of the heater: Typically a metal or high-temperature plastic that contains the element, and directs airflow.
  • Optional fan or heat sink: Improves distribution of the heat and removes over-heating during continuous operation.
  • Collectively, these components allow the device to heat up quickly, have dependable temperature control, and have durability for long life performance.

Types of PTC Air Heaters

PTC air heaters can be classified based on element design, shape, and application:

By Element Shape:

Plate Type: Flat and thin, ideal for compact appliances.

Rod or Cylinder Type: Often used in industrial heaters or HVAC systems.

Ring or Disk Type: Provides uniform heating in circular airflow systems.
