The industrial cartridge heater is a tubular industrial heating element that can be inserted into a borehole. Cartridge heaters provide local and precise heating, often used in the heating process industry. In general, barrel heaters are used to heat metal blocks from within and can be customized to specific power densities according to application requirements.


Industrial cartridge heaters are most commonly used to heat metal parts by inserting drilled holes. For ease of installation, the size of the heater is slightly smaller than its nominal diameter.

How does an industrial Cartridge heater work?

The barrel heater is composed of a resistance coil wound on a ceramic core, which is surrounded by a dielectric and wrapped in a metal sheath. The dynamic heat transferred to the jacket through the coil causes the jacket to heat up. The heat is then transferred to the internal metal parts that need it.


In order to install cartridge heaters in low or moderate temperature applications (600 ° F or less), a universal drill bit is usually sufficient for drilling. It is possible to drill 0.003 "to 0.008" holes in the nominal size of the drill bit to achieve a fit of 0.009 "to 0.014." Although this mix ratio allows for a slightly looser optimum heat transfer, it facilitates the installation and removal of tubular heaters, especially those with long sheaths. In high power density, close fit is more important. These holes should be drilled and reamed, not just drilled with a universal drill bit. Closer fit, the heater will run colder and have a longer life expectancy.
