How to troubleshoot a cartridge heater that is not heating?
If a cartridge heater is not heating, here are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:
Verify Power: Ensure that the heater is properly connected to the power supply and that the power is on.
Test Voltage: Use a multimeter to check that the correct voltage is reaching the heater. Compare it with the specified voltage in the heater's specifications.
Loose or Damaged Wires: Inspect all electrical connections to ensure they are secure. Loose or broken wires can interrupt the current flow.
Check for Short Circuits: Examine the wires for any signs of damage or short circuits that could prevent heating.
Measure the Resistance: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the heater's terminals. Compare this reading to the specified resistance value in the product datasheet.
If there is no resistance or very high resistance, the heater element might be broken or burned out.
If the resistance is within the expected range, the heater element is likely intact.
Look for Burn Marks: Inspect the cartridge heater for visible signs of overheating, burn marks, or cracking. A damaged heater may need to be replaced.
Check for Corrosion or Contamination: If the heater has been exposed to moisture or harsh chemicals, corrosion can affect its functionality.
