What is a cartridge heater?

Apr 11, 2023

A cartridge heater is a small electric heating element used to heat up a variety of industrial and commercial equipment, such as molds, dies, sealing bars, and packaging equipment. The heater consists of a metal cartridge or sheath, usually made of stainless steel, with a resistive heating element inside. The element is typically made of a nickel-chromium alloy, which can withstand high temperatures and provide long-lasting heating.

The cartridge heater is designed to be inserted into a hole or a cavity in the equipment to be heated, and is usually held in place with a set screw or other fastening mechanism. Once connected to a power source, the heating element inside the cartridge heats up, transferring heat to the surrounding equipment and bringing it up to the desired temperature.

Cartridge heaters come in various sizes, shapes, and wattages, and can be customized for specific applications. They are often used in industrial manufacturing processes that require precise temperature control, such as plastic injection molding, food processing, and semiconductor manufacturing.
