Vulcanization involves heating rubber under pressure to create cross-linking between polymer chains, enhancing strength, elasticity, and durability. The cartridge heater ensures uniform and controlled heating of the mold or platen.
Insertion into Heated Plates/Molds: The cylindrical cartridge heater is inserted into drilled holes in the press platens or mold.
Electrical Resistance Heating: When powered, the internal resistance wire (usually nickel-chromium) generates heat, which is conducted through the surrounding insulation (magnesium oxide) and the metal sheath (stainless steel or Incoloy).
Temperature Control: A thermocouple or RTD sensor (often integrated or nearby) monitors temperature, feeding data to a PID controller to maintain precise vulcanization temperatures (typically 150°C–200°C or higher).
Heat Transfer: The heater directly heats the mold or platen, ensuring even distribution for consistent vulcanization.
