A PTC heater (Positive Temperature Coefficient heater) in a vehicle is an electrical heater which uses a ceramic material with a positive temperature coefficient to generate heating. The operation of the heater is quite simple: as the ceramic temperature increases, the resistance increases, consequently decreasing the current through the heater, so the heater is self regulating.
Here is the internal operation of the heater in a vehicle:
Initial Heating: When the vehicle is initially started, the PTC heater begins drawing a heavier initial current, and heats up quickly.
Self Regulation: When the heater gets hotter, its resistance increases causing the current to lower. Thus, its lessened heat output means it will not be too hot.
Energy Efficiency: Since it self regulates, it is energy efficient and can maintain a stable temperature without having external control
PTC heaters are mainly used for pre-heating the cabin, and defrosting the windshield in electric vehicles, or with other modern vehicles that have heating systems which can work independently. They provide a heating solution which is not traditional resistive heaters which use external thermostatic or controlling devices.
It's an efficient way to ensure that the car's heating system works smoothly, especially in electric vehicles where traditional combustion heaters might not be present.
We can customize the PTC heater for car. Welcome to ask for the quotation.
