How do you connect a Type J thermocouple?

To connect a Type J thermocouple:

  1. Identify the wires: The Type J thermocouple consists of two wires-iron (positive) and constantan (negative, a copper-nickel alloy).
  2. Connect the iron wire to the positive terminal of your measurement device or temperature controller.
  3. Connect the constantan wire to the negative terminal.
  4. Ensure proper polarity to get accurate readings-reversing the connections will cause incorrect temperature measurements.
  5. Use thermocouple extension wires made from the same metals (iron and constantan) if longer lengths are needed, to maintain accuracy.
  6. Make sure all connections are secure and protected from corrosion or mechanical damage.
